How to get free realtones
A realtone or truetone is the easiest type of free ringtone to get. You need three things to get your free realtones: A phone capable of using them; an MP3 track of your choice and a way of transferring it from your PC to your mobile.
1: Your mobile phone
If your phone can't play MP3's you probably won't be able to get your free realtones to work, and will be better off looking at the free polyphonics page. If it can play MP3's you're well on your way to getting yourself some nice free realtones!
2: An MP3 of the realtones you want
There are several ways of getting the MP3s you want to use as your free realtones. First stop is your own music collection - rip a CD to your computer using something like Windows Media Player or iTunes. If you don't already have a track you want as a free realtone you could try looking in some of these places:
- Your mates' collections
- Public libraries
- Good old Peer to Peer sites (be wary of potential copyright infringement)

Ideally, the tracks you have chosen will have great intros that will be all you need for your free ringtones. If not, you may have to do a bit of slicing and mixing to get that real tone you want. 3: Transferring your free realtones to your phone
There are a few ways of transferring data from a PC to a phone, transforming your MP3 tracks into free realtones. Firstly you may need to install some software from your phone manufacturer; Nokia for instance has the Nokia PC Suite available for free download from their website.
Transferring your free realtones will depend on your phone and your computer. The main scenarios are:
- Phone and computer both have an Infrared port
- Phone and computer both have a Bluetooth capability
- Phone and computer both have a wireless network connection

- Phone takes an external memory card
